You would be surprised, but the most violent individuals in primate packs are "betas" who aspire to "leading positions". They are the ones who form cliques, engage in politics, etc. And when they succeed they have to continue to do so lest they lose their position. But they will still be "betas" for the rest of their lives. True "alphas" don't have to assert their "dominance". The respect they get is not based on fear. Frankly, I’ve said it many times, but even a little bit of education or at least googling goes a long way.
