You forgot to mention that Trump may also try to skip the election altogether, or use pandemic to run it in a non-standard way (which may explain why he ignores it). Also what you call fascism is actually populist nationalism which is but a next stage and a facade of imperialism, and in a country that runs on patriotism, it’s not that hard to pull off. The simple equation being patriot=nationalist (or in other words nazi). Also, if you look more carefully, you will notice the same populist nationalism in Russia, China, India, Brasil, Israel, Italy,… just to name a few other countries. So, to me this all looks more like a final standoff between the millennia old system of oppression (that culminated in populist nationalism) and humanity with all what the word implies. Thus, don’t worry, whether Trump succeeds or not does not actually matter, America, as well as the rest of the world, is never going to be the same again (thankfully).
