Yes, Ryan's excursion into shamanism is pretty informed. Well, let's just say that shamanism as it emerged and evolved c. 70K yrs ago was already a very unfortunate way to deal with our newly acquired metacognition and actually resulted in the mess we find ourselves in today. Even though some practical aspects of shamanism are extremely useful (meditation, trance, etc.), its whole metaphysics, cosmology, etc. are extremely misleading because they are incomplete.
