Yeah, as I said, it sounds pompous while it's actually very elementary. In my case my "vocation" was truth. But I didn't disappear into forest for years on end -- my family knows me pretty well, I would say :D Well, and after I "arrived," my vocation simply became, "Folks, you have to see it!"

I don't know what it's like to have family as the focus of one's vocation, but I can say that I can approach my family in a more fulfilling way thanks to my, perhaps ultimately selfish, path.

Just as a side note, professional vocation sounds like an oxymoron. I experience vocation as a basal passion. Profession is simply skill and is marketable. Though you may be professional in execution of your vocation, most people don't care about your vocation when they buy your skills. As far as I can tell at least.
