With a little bit of introspection, you can not only realize that you were taught to "want meaning, utility, [etc.]" but also who taught you that you should crave those "things" and convinced you that that yearning is a quintessential human attribute. In reality, and since very early childhood, all we really want is to know the answers to all our "whys," i.e. to know causality. So, our dominant cultures don't reflect our inborn alienation as there is no such thing. They hijack our inborn curiosity and use it to introduce alienation in order to divide and conquer (our minds). Go deeper, my friend.
