That is a very superficial understanding, one that merely counters the equally misguided and superficial normative misinterpretations of all Abrahamic traditions. In other words, you are correct that religious interpretations are off, but so are yours.

To make the long story short, Ten Words are a practical socio-psychological guide for self-realization (or enlightenment, if you will) and subsequent just and sustainable social order based in, and derived from, natural order of observable universe, which was at the time formulated (for obvious reasons) in anthropocentric terms of the era and the region.
