There was a joke I've heard some time ago which nicely demonstrates your predicament:

Someone once went to Ramana Maharshi and argued, “You know, your method of investigation 'Who am I?' … It's nice and everything, but it's not really my way. I'm dedicated to Narayana, the Lord.”

Ramana smiled and replied, “Fine, that's perfectly all right.”

The questioner's eyes sparkled, “Great! So after death, will I go to dwelling place of God? Will I go to Vaikuntha, the dwelling place of Narayana?”

Ramana smiled again, “Yes, of course you will.”

“Fantastic!” the questioner continued, “So, will I see Narayana, will I see God after death?”

“Yes, you will,” Ramana replied again.

“And will I see him as clearly as I see you?”

“Oh, of course, even more clearly.”

“And will he talk to me?”

“No doubt, God will talk to you.”

“And what will he say to me?”

Ramana looked at the inquisitor, smiled once more and replied, “He will tell you to find out who you are.”
