There is one utterly practical reason not to celebrate one's birthday or name day and that is that celebrating it encourages self-importance. Self-importance in turn strengthens one's identity ("I am <my identity>"), which in turn prevents one to see the Truth. Do you, perchance, strongly identify as Christian?
