The whole spiritual business thing is like charging one's kids for teaching them how to walk. In case of "standard" religions it's akin to parental abuse in the vein of, "I teach you how to walk, so obey me." And the sad reality is that in the end all of these folks, "teachers" and seekers alike, still crawl on all fours. No exceptions.
