The fig tree is really a peculiar one. In Mark it seems like Jesus really just lashes out in anger even though “it was not the season for figs,” (which must have been obvious to him), in Matthew it's more benign and in Luke it is basically just denouncement of a useless irredeemable element that wastes time, space, and resources. Devil would make Jesus equally angry, I guess (and yet, it ends with one more, final, chance).
