Sure, and said counterculture is equally ignorant as the mainstream it opposes. Plus, it's snobbishly hypocritical in that it considers itself somehow better (more intellectual, clever, etc.) than the mainstream. And, of course, not to mention that there are those who don't revere mating rituals, but also don't hold our natural impulses in contempt (e.g. tantric folks I've mentioned). And so on and so forth. I'm not overcomplicating anything. Your view is just too simplistic and limited, leaving out anything that does not fit your assumptions, hence you must pretzelize yourself to make sense.
