Sorcerers’ Trap
The sorcerers’ explanation is still an explanation. Yes, “[t]he tonal is where all the unified organization exists.”[*] Yes, all composite individualities that organize themselves as such eventually “disintegrate and go back again to where they came from, the nagual.”[*] Those are exactly the same reasons why Buddha asked, and I paraphrase, “Where does the flame go when it goes out?”
But the sorcerers’ explanation is still an explanation. If tonal is our usual waking (social) world, nagual is merely the totality of cosmos. Much closer, but still not there. Yes, sorcerers’ explanation is more encompassing because tonal is, so to speak, just condensed nagual. But that’s not the end of the tale.
The third attention, which you can access and still live to tell the story, reveals why sorcerers’ explanation is still just an explanation. With all pitfalls that go with being an explanation and despite the higher relative utility. Whatever you believe, you don’t exactly journey into the unknown, if that unknown has an explanation.
Therefore, treat each and every explanation as such.
After all, even sorcerers’ explanation will always be only an explanation.
