Osho was a full-fledged fraud from the very beginning, so what you describe as a conflict of "Christians" vs. attempt at enlightening American culture was merely a conflict of two bigoted sects. Well, Osho didn't have the needed political support in US so the things ended as they did. But look at Osho v2.0 (aka Sadhguru) -- he understood that his chances to exploit the gullible are better if he does not leave India, and indeed he is currently almost the right hand of Modi (and filthy rich).
