Of course there is hell. It's a state of being. Similarly, heaven. That, too, is a state of being. Right here and now. So yes, until one does not repent, one lives in hell. Or purgatory, at best. And, of course, one passes one's modus vivendi onto further generations. Thus, hell truly is a conscious, eternal punishment and torment in fire of hatred and greed. Eternal – until one repents and breaks the vicious cycle; conscious – because it's right in this world. It's a “punishment” for not taking responsibility for one's actions. Or in other words, not having faith in Jesus and rejecting the advice he gave in this regard. And remember, though the choice can be truly made freely, the outcomes are ruthlessly causal. You may say just. Well, it's all pretty far from what ignorant priests imagine when they parrot the “cryptic wisdom”, but the underlying truth is there.
