Of course everything is perfect. If nothing else, causality (aka karma) works without a fail and there's nothing that is not unaccounted for in universe (i.e. there's no error that could cause it malfunction). That also implies that we are perfect, but I digress.

You may have also noticed that nowhere did Dass's guru (or was it Dass himself? it's not clear from your piece) mention supernatural, transcendent, immanent, not even reincarnation (though he might have believed in it -- I have no clue). Also, count the number of words in your article alone that point at human caused suffering as opposed to natural disasters and accidents.

As for faith and believing -- one has to believe only until one knows. That's the purpose of belief -- one has to have faith that there is an actual "goal" to be known. After one reaches it, what's the point of believing? One knows, and that's that.
