Not possibly, but definitely. Even if that was not Laing's intention. Perceptual world of a shaman is the same as that of so-called schizophrenic. Only in the case of a shaman it's a deliberately controlled psychosis while schizophrenic is controlled by it.
I must also add that standard shamanism operates only in those two modes of perception. But being fluent in traversing this boundary and being able to functionally operate in both domains is not what is generally understood as “spiritual awakening”, enlightenment, etc. In some neo-shamanic circles that “final state” is known as “third attention” and, technically, it's beyond perception as such.
