No Place to Go

Not even God can escape himself (for good)

Everyone wants to escape. Everyone is on the way out, to a place where the grass must be definitely greener.

Someone waits for an alien spaceship to lift them away. Someone hopes to break into parallel dimension where pure joy abounds. Someone yearns for a combination of the two¹, but most of us just want a better job, a nicer house, a more loving partner, prettier body, or just different, calmer thoughts.

However, the road is long and the waiting seems endless. Thus, everyone grasps at straws. Be it just sex, drugs, and rock and roll, idle fantasies, or cutthroat hustle, slavish service, but even apathy and destruction do.

Anything goes as long as it distracts from the suffering — from the lingering persistent lack of contentment.

However ridiculous it may seem, this sentiment is not misplaced. Deep down we remember a place of plenty, a gilded time. So, we imagine and hope.

But those illusory visions of future cornucopia, preposterous unfounded hope, and all the grotesque means just add to the misery. For a moment, they chase away the symptoms only to make the whole ordeal even worse.

Again and again, we try to escape this world, we thirst to flee from ourselves.

Yet, that’s impossible.

Freedom just means knowing that truth — and there’s where it’s at.

¹ I had to make this meme, because one could not make this up O_o

That block of text on top is a literal transcript of a part of a “sermon” by J. Hagee (the man in the picture)
