Enlightened observer is not busy “re-engineering nature” because, seeing that “the world itself — both within us and without us — is untreated, unspoken, untheorized, ineffable”, such observer knows that the world itself is perfect.

Sure, it does not prevent them from trying to construct a more comfortable nest or a more convenient nutcracker, but they will work with nature not against it. So, if anything, they will “be busy re-engineering” social contracts or the very nature of consensus reality. Precisely because while they don't feel the need to console themselves with fictions, honorable or other, they also understand that, as you also observe, we, as “symbolic” species enmeshed in said fictions, cannot escape them completely.
