Indeed, the word is pretty misleading (original Sanskrit meaning also further connotes sadness, grief). I find Vedic "bliss" or Abrahamic "love" (as in undirected love as such) to be more fitting alternatives. But my personal preference is "peace", "calm", or "contentment" (and "homeostasis" would also do).
With that being said, when you look at the state of our human world suffused with all that egoistic selfishness and self-serving altruism from the vantage point of contentment and peace, wanting noting, you cannot help but feel sadness. I think it's a pretty natural human reaction. Why reject it?
