In ancient times, we would say that this is a spiritual battle. A real life Magic: The Gathering of sorts. In fact, and as we speak, all cultist perceive the conflict you described as such. In modern parlance, it's simply a battle of persuasion. The problem of insufficient pushback against the truly destructive cults is the fact that most people are in more benign kind of cults (economics, politics, social norms of zeitgeist, etc.) and thus feel insecure to tackle other cults, because they would be forced to face their own indoctrination first. Hence, the bigger lie has a field day and seems to have upper hand. But, as is also obvious, it's all just a matter of relative power of clashing persuasions and psychological methods of nullifying their harmful impact.
