I'm fairly certain that the history lesson is not over, yet. The imperialistic modus operandi born in Sumer, which was, for obvious reasons, known around the 1st century CE as Babylon, will collapse as it is based on greed ergo infinite growth. As you've pointed out, it absorbs and appropriates any idea that can undermine it, so it turned animism into polytheism, non-dual thought into monotheism, and it also turned Jesus into a nationalist with a Glock.
This, however, is a temporary detour, because the system itself will literally run out of fuel. We've reached a point in history, when this is already a visible, palpable reality. I think that the main question is, whether humanity can abandon that mental parasite before it drives us into extinction (and hence also the system itself goes extinct). But the system as such is bound to fall either way.
