I'd say that the original monotheists, or rather non-dualist, who later became adherents of Zoroastrian, Abrahamic, and Vedic/Buddhist traditions respectively, got it right from the very beginning (how Taoists came to the same conclusions would be an interesting case study though). It's only that the Sumerian hierarchic model of civilization (the infamous "Babylon"), which is by its very design coupled with theisms of all kinds (poly/heno/mono) corrupts everything it touches (something of which even the generation of the “weeping prophet” Jeremiah was already well aware).
