I would say yes and go with the proposed "superior pattern processing." Or some similar "enhancement" of the default perceptual pattern processing that could result in metacognition. (Even though e.g. gorillas, too, evidently exhibit a limited form of symbolic thinking, it does not seem like they also exhibit metacognition.)
