I very much agree -- so called liberal Christians are hypocrites of the highest order. They think they are better than their orthodox bigoted cousins (who are at least honest about their bigotry, however twisted that is), and they also think that they are better then the rest (atheists, other traditions, etc.) while still clinging to basically all crucial delusion and fucked up behavioral patterns of Christianity -- simply holier than holier than thou. Well, those are the people who just cherry pick anything to excuse their lack of responsibility while pushing anything uncomfortable out of their lives even if it means living in delusion.

Thus, when you say, "I need to be all secretive and hide that I’m an atheist from everyone, hide my real opinions of things, and hide what being an atheist means to me," I would suggest that, in fact, you could not care less. I mean, why torture yourself and comply? Those relationships, in their essence, won't go any worse (I bet the differences already manifest in other areas) and at least you will have peace of mind as the ball will be in their court. In other words, don't compromise, it's worth it. At least IMHO.
