I see 1984/BNW all around. We don't have to change our minds in order to go there because we already think that way and even in terms of technologies, we are essentially there too (see e.g. artificial womb).

I would say the direction is clear.

If you take all the various social systems throughout the history and compare those that fostered and sustained equality etc. with those that are build on (or lead to) socioeconomic hierarchy (i.e. what we have worldwide today), those egalitarian ones differ in that they have no religion as a mediator between Absolute and common population (that is, no legislated ideology) and they don't use money in any shape and form. Go figure.

Of course, it's only a chance. Whether we take it or not is a different matter. But I also think that self-preservation is a powerful motivator, and this current system is bound to collapse under its own weight one way or another.
