And if you'd presented what Jesus actually taught, that is to say that "I am" from Ex. 3:14 is the same "I am" we can all recognize "within" and that that recognition amounts to entering the Kingdom of God (i.e. salvation and eternal life), they would even excommunicate you, stone you (not in a good way, though), and, just to be sure, also burned you at stake.
