I get what you are trying to say, after all this debate was well presented even in our media. However, Taliban destroyed UNESCO World Heritage sites. That's quite a different matter as removing statues that remind everyone (in a celebratory manner) of the shit we had to endure. It's like rubbing salt into an open wound. We also have a solid education system, so we don't need statues in public places to remind us of our history. Then again, there are still various ethnically specific statues that try to pander to nationalistically charged history interpretations in certain regions, but they come and go and very few of them (if any) could be considered art -- merely cultural artifacts with pretty mediocre artistic value, essentially a waste of money and bronze.
