There is also that misconception that Jesus hanged out with sinners -- he hanged out with those who stopped sinning. Even in that quote you use, Levi "got up, left everything and followed him." Jesus also told many people to "go and sin no more." I can assure you Jesus was not interested in unrepentant folks. Sure, he gave them a chance, but that was it.
