But to not let other denominations off the hook — faith is good only so far as to trust that Christian path can, indeed, lead to liberation; “works” are not good deeds that somehow increase person’s “merit balance sheet”, they should only lead to “clean conscience”, a peaceful state of mind needed to contemplate, and, eventually, if “lucky” (by grace in other parlance) have that final “liberating insight” (or enter the Kingdom of God). Only then, as John says, “I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand.” That’s the “indestructible enlightenment” that won’t go away no matter what, and makes slipping back to “sin” (or unwholesome actions in other traditions) especially painful because rationalizations no longer work. All in all, today’s Christians (throughout all denominations) have no clue what (although quite hidden) gem they have at their hands. Then again, it’s not the fault of an “average adherent”, but clergy.
