As you describe it, it almost seems as if they hunted him down (there is not much to hunt at 11000 ft, maybe only chamois). During his last day, he was more than ten hours on the move, essentially the whole time Sun was up (elevation of 6000 ft in Alps is no joke plus he was injured). I wonder if he was a chieftain. That would explain a lot. Anyway, very interesting read.
