As I see it, you submitted to the reality of the situation on a visceral level (repentance), that allowed you to forgive yourself for clinging to revenge (you were forgiven), which, in turn, lead you to forgive the person who harmed you (the culprit was forgiven).

And while that person in question remained unrepentant (does not admit their wrongdoing), and hence are oblivious to forgiveness granted to them, they certainly have at least one less person to go after them in revenge ("Father forgive them for they...").

I'd say that repentance is necessary to reap the fruits of forgiveness.
