As I see it, the actual problem is the notion of obligation and servitude as such. Whether it's self-serving individualism, servitude toward work, family, or society at large, nebulous obligations to serve a "higher power (be it theistic God or his philosophical rendering as "ground of being"), or obligation of service to an existentially heroic neo-shamanic ideal (of authenticity or what have you).

Real authenticity is "pure" being without obligations. A tree simply exists and, while being of service, so to speak, it provides many benefits for other beings without actually serving anyone or anything. It does so just by the fact of its very existence. And it would did the same, even if no one benefited from said "service."
