As I said, human body is technically not conscious either. It just reflects (for a lack of better word) consciousness. Stone obviously does not. While people go to different directions from this point, I am fairly convinced that consciousness-existence is the absolute nature of all. So stone is consciousness, but not conscious.

When it comes to the problem of how that mirror is actually generated, Hinduism predicts that that is simply beyond (human?) grasp (“Maya is inscrutable”). I would also say that that reflection is why there will never be a true AI, or why there are successful experiments in creating protocells via abiogenesis, but (surprisingly?) only dead ones – they form but they don't live (no eating, no procreation, etc.).

As for qualia – there is no such thing as objective quality. E.g. redness is a consensual construct built upon individual rendering of reality. It's a fact that can be observed and it was also demonstrated. But yes, the actual science in this regard is still in diapers (and in some cases pretty cruel if you ask me).
