And yet the "cynical existentialist, pessimist, or nihilist who says that, on the contrary, science shows that human life is a monstrous joke" is equally blind to her faith in said monstrosity despite the fact that existentialism, pessimism, and, ultimately, nihilism taken to their logical conclusion make that joke and its monstrosity utterly irrelevant. Not to mention, who is making the joke in the first place?
