Socrates was talking about … a sort of willful remaining in the experience of radical uncertainty.
Ah, makes perfect sense. Now, that I think about it, it was even explicitly spelled out when Theaetetus was said to be left wondering when what was before obvious became merely a “wind-egg”.
Well, it makes those questions asking why there’s something instead of nothing even more redundant — if they are meant as a way to get to the bottom of why Absolute creates the world of phenomena, they are not only unanswerable but also moot.
Before one Knows, there’s no way to have a clue and one can only guess, after one Knows the answers don’t matter (but are still unanswerable — Absolute predates all reasons). Frankly, it makes those disputes about what is the proper emotional response in the face of unknown even more ridiculous. Especially, when they are going between ignorant parties.
Well, my beloved Castaneda would say that, notwithstanding the emotion, one should face the infinity without flinching and would call it discipline :D
